The Paper-Ensemble is a music ensemble founded by Jochem van Tol for up to 4 players and a series of paper instruments that emerged from 2 years of research with the main question: “What are the musical possibilities of paper, and is it possible to make sounds that speak to the imagination?” “Could paper also except all noise produce tones?” The result is a serie of five instruments:

Vel (Sheet), Prop (Prop), Springveer (Jumper), Brommer (Brommer),Toeter (Horn)

Each instrument requires certain physical acts and they are defined in a graphical notation system. Maps with colored symbols indicate who is to play. Time and timing are decided not only in symbols like the regular notation, but are determined by the musicians.
